About

Kelley Sand & Gravel Inc. started in February of 1968 when Elwyn Kelley and his brother LaVerne purchased Fritz Sand & Gravel from two brothers here in Wautoma, WI. Elwyn, who lived in Menasha with his wife and two children, was a co-owner of Driveway Services, while his brother LaVerne who lived with his wife and children in Portage was a superintendent for P.C. Kaiser, a company that constructed interstate highways. They were bringing over 20 years of road construction experience with them when they started on this journey over 55 years ago.

Elwyn and LaVerne were born and raised in the Plainfield area. At an early age they were exposed to roadwork and construction, tagging along with their father Boyd Kelley, when his crew was building roadways with a team of horses.

When LaVerne passed away in 1986, leaving Elwyn the sole operator, KS&G continued on with the help of Nolan Kelley (his son), Gena Pontow (his daughter), and Dawn Kelley (his niece). Throughout KS&G's 55 plus years of business various family members and friends who became like family have worked for the company.

Elwyn Kelley passed away in February of 2012 at the young age of 88. Up until that time he was still actively operating the business which then got passed down to Nolan, Gena, and Dawn. In the meantime, Elwyn's grandson Adam Kelley was working for the state highway department in Colorado. Adam returned to Wautoma in March of 2015 to join his father Nolan in operating the business until Nolan's passing in 2019. Now Adam is the sole operator of KS&G and continuing his grandfathers legacy.

KS&G has been the "clear choice" for commercial and residential customers in Waushara and surrounding counties. From golf courses like the Waushara Country Club, Two Oaks Golf Course, and the Mascoutin Country Club, to local ski hills like Nordic Mountain, a runway for the Reabe airport in Plainfield, and local city parks such as Bird Creek. We take great pride in being from Wautoma and helping to maintain our small town.

Most of the materials we use at KS&G are locally sourced here in Wautoma in our own sand and stone mine. We have the ability to provide our customers with DOT approved materials, various washed materials like sand and pea gravel, recycled asphalt and concrete, and many more.
